NEWS FROM THE JUNIOR COMMITTEE - Rod Peile
The Junior committee is looking for members to become involved in assisting with Junior events. If your children or grandchildren are benefiting from the Juniors program perhaps you could find a little time to join our committee. We are also looking for someone with special talent to conduct the warm up exercises for our Bus Trip preparation morning. I fall well short of the mark set by Helen Quarrel prior to her retirement, and ask if anyone is a gifted sports coach or PE teacher and can spare an hour on 15/6/ 08. Please give me a call.
Our sponsored ski racers Tim Easdale and Lara Easdale have both returned home safely from training and racing at Jackson Hole. Lara reported progress at our February meeting and is now working to increase leg strength to improve ski control under race conditions. Tim was not able to address the meeting due to school commitments but has continued working very hard.
The Juniors will have stock of Club souvenirs, polar fleece vests and shirts for sale in our lodges during winter; please see Junior committee members or lodge manager for purchase.
Everyone is welcome to attend our next Juniors meeting on 6th May 2008 at John and Rosemary Swan's home, 51 Wentworth St, Killara starting at 8:00pm; we will finalise details for the 2008 Juniors program, enjoy a chat and supper, please contact me if you have any questions regarding our Juniors program. |
BUS TRIP Preparation morning - Sunday 15th June, 2008
We are planning to hold our Preparation Morning at Lane Cove Scout hall; starting at 9:30am with 1/2 hour of physical activities on the nearby oval. This allows children to meet and have some fun together before morning tea in the hall and short information session where any questions on bus trip or race training will be discussed. Attendance for bus trip children is important to allow introductions of parent helpers and to allow the children to meet and create friends before trip before departure.
Junior Bus Trip - Wednesday 2nd July to Saturday 5th July 2008.
Children between 8 and 13 years are invited to apply for our Junior Bus trip. The trip includes return travel to Charlotte Pass by coach & snowcat, accommodation & meals at Southern Alps Lodge, 2-1/2 day lift tickets, ski or snowboard lessons, free skiing with adult supervisors and evening entertainment.
The Coach leaves Sydney on Wednesday evening and returns on Saturday evening. The aim of our bus trip is to improve skiing or snowboarding ability of our young club members, to be responsible and have a great time.
Applications received up to our juniors meeting on 6/5/08 will be sorted by age with the older children being offered places first. Application forms will only be sent to successful applicants after cut-off age has been determined. Please read the flier in this newsletter and for more information or contact Ingrid Andrew.. |
Junior Race Training - 12th to 19th July 2008.
Eight children from the bus trip will be selected to have a week of ski or snowboard race training at Perisher Blue. The Junior committee will pay for race coaching, lift tickets, race entry and transport to races at Thredbo and Charlotte Pass.
All race team members will stay at Kahane Lodge under supervision of the team manager Alastair Sloan. The team members will be required to train for alpine skiing or snowboarding and cross country skiing. |
This week long program gives our youngsters specialised race coaching and allows them to decide if they enjoy racing. This is a very tiring week and we ask parents encourage their children to do some additional fitness training before this hectic week. Children are only allowed to be in this team twice to allow
many to experience this training. |
