The Bureau of Meteorology long-range forecasting website is predicting lower maximum temperatures but higher minimum temperatures up to the end of the current forecasting period in May 2008 with precipitation probably at above normal levels. If this carries through winter, it is hopefully good news.
The Northern winter ski season appears to have been pretty good with Europe, Canada, America and Japan all giving travellers generally good skiing conditions. I personally bumped into a lot of Club members skiing in Northern Japan in January this year and I suspect that many of our members experienced some good skiing in the Northern Hemisphere over the December to March period.
Both Craig Branch and Jenny Owens have had wonderful World Cup results. Craig Branch has posted some career-best finishes and Jenny Owens made the World Cup podium, winning the silver and bronze medal within the space of one week.
The Club's maj r senior alpine racing event for 2008 is Race Week at Thredbo commencing on the weekend of 2 August 2008, with the races on 7 and 8 August 2008. We anticipate having a training session on 6 August 2008. |
Race Week has proved very popular over the years. We are always looking for new racers, no matter what level, and everyone who attends is made most welcome and part of the team. Even if you decideto come down at the last minute it is always
worth checking with the Booking Officer as sometimes vacancies occur at the last minute due to illnesses, injuries or other unforeseen events.

Last year a number of members stayed at Jindabyne or other accommodation at Thredbo and were able to compete. The Championships and Races are open to all Club members and you do not have to be staying at the Thredbo Lodge to compete. If you are staying at Kahane at Perisher Valley that week and want to come over please advise so we can make sure that you are entered. Also any members staying at Jindabyne or other lodges in Thredbo should contact myself or one of the Club Officers either before Race Week or at the Thredbo Lodge leading up to the races. You are also welcome to participate in the training session.
The Thredbo Inter-Club is on Saturday 9 August 2008 immediately following our Club Championships. It is usual for one or two places to be left open in our Senior Inter-Club Team for members who excel in the Club Championships.
We are constantly on the lookout for Club members who can make a contribution to our race team so if any member wants to be considered for a place in the team or knows of any other member who can contribute they should contact me.
The theme for our Race Week/Club Championship party which we intend to hold at our Thredbo Lodge will be a masquerade mask or head covering. |
The invitations for members to compete in the Thredbo Inter-Club will be sent out in the next few weeks and we hope to have the best team available.
