Juniors Report - June 2024

As I write this report, the preparations for the junior's bus trip and race training week are well underway. This is the 50th year that we have run the bus trip and we have had a special edition shirt produced for the children and parent helpers designed by Nikki DiFalco. We did receive a large amount of interest from the junior club members, and originally had around 49 children planning to join the trip. As we have been doing the younger children were going to head to Charlotte Pass, unfortunately with the previously reported challenges surrounding the fire in the sewerage works, we are unable to send the younger group down this season.

The Bus Trip Planning BBQ was a resounding success, and I would like to extend my appreciation once again to the juniors crew for their assistance with shopping, cooking, stacking chairs, and cleaning up afterward. I would also like to express our appreciation to the Lane Cove Sailing Club for graciously allowing us to use their facilities once again.

The Junior Interclub event is scheduled to take place at Thredbo on July 16th. The Junior race training team will be heading to Thredbo from Perisher to race for the club, along with the local members who reside in Jindabyne, those who are staying at the lodges (Kahane and Christiania) or down for the week and eager to represent SASC. If your child is under 18 and interested in participating, please contact Lorena Juracich at sasc.race.coordinator@gmail.com. The juniors will provide assistance with Thredbo lift tickets and race entry.

Keep an eye out for the annual junior’s raffle on a separate communication. We will have great prizes as always and all funds raised will go towards supporting the events we organize.

I would like to express my gratitude to Sandy Brinkman for organizing the replenishment of the club's apparel stocks. Merchandise sales also contribute to junior funding so representing your club in our great gear helps you look the part also.

We have already had some early-season snow dustings, and we are hopeful for more to come. Enjoy the upcoming season and make the most of what is available if you can get to the mountains.

Go Well!
