Happy New Year

We wish all our members the very best for the new year!

The 2016 calendar will be available on the "CALENDAR" tab shortly.

The January newsletter has been delayed due to the mini tornado that hit Kurnell on 16th December. The Newsletters were trashed when the storm blew the mailing companies roof off. The newsletter has been reprinted and should be in the post week beginning the 11th January. Tariff sheets and booking forms are included in this mail out.

New year at Thredbo

Christiania Lodge will be open for catered period from 26 December 2015 until 3 January. The accommodation and meals is at the Lodge’s shoulder rate and linen and towels are provided. The meals will be provided by Cascades Restaurant in the Thredbo Alpine Hotel. The guests who experienced this arrangement last year enjoyed excellent chef prepared meals with a choice of two mains. A major advantage over a breakfast provided at the lodge at a fixed time and fairly limited choice is that Cascades is open for breakfast from 7 am until 11 am with a huge smorgasbord of foods as provided by a large hotel. Thredbo is a happy place over the Christmas/New Year period with lots of guests and activities arranged by the resort. All the shops were open last year and most had sales. Thredbo also has the new Birdsnest store. Bookings should be made with the Christiania Lodge booking officers, Danielle and Greg Ozolins.

Sochi Winter Olympics

Great effort by our Winter Olympians!

Congratulations to ski cross athletes Jenny Owens, Sami Kennedy-Sim, Scott Kneller and aerial skier Sam Wells for their performance at the Sochi Winter Olympics.

Fantastic effort!

We have enjoyed watching and cheering the Australian team members but always more heartfelt when it was our Southern Alps members!

Sam Wells competed on day 7 ladies aerial event coming so very close to qualifying in her first jump, missing out by 0.28 points - Sam's second qualifing jump was great in the air but unfortunately Sam fell back in the landing and missed a place in the final by 8 points.

Scott competed on day 13 in the mens ski cross and placed 24th in the seeding, Scott was pushing up on second place in the 1/8 final when he failed to land after jump.

Our support team for the ladies Ski Cross at North's last Friday night (day 14) went off with flag waving and Aussie, Aussie, Aussie cheers but unfortunately both Sami and Jenny crashed during the seeding run and placed 25 and 26th. Sami did not have much luck in the 1/8 final crashing out and a small mistake by Jen in the 1/4 final put an end to her chance of a podum.

The free exchange of congratulations between competitors in these events was amazing - great sportsmanship between countries.
